KNAB proposes to criminalise illegal activities related to financing of political parties

Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) is concerned that currently law does not allow performing criminal investigation, as well as to hold a person criminally liable and to sentence a person for illegal financing of political parties and for acceptance of donations in a large amount, including, for demanding to finance illegally political parties in a large amount.
KNAB suggests deciding on its autonomous status

On 6th March 2008 the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) submitted amendments to the Law on Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau for announcement at the State Secretaries’ Meeting. The amendments envisage a status of an autonomous state institution for KNAB as specialized anti-corruption body.
KNAB detained an official of the Riga City Council for bribery in relation to procurement

The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau suspecting demand and acceptance of bribes on 4 March 2008 apprehended an official of the Riga City Council Welfare Department. Within these criminal proceedings were apprehended two other persons – one for giving bribes, other for intermediation in bribery.
