The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) on the first half of 2016 to initiate a criminal prosecution has sent 12 criminal procedures against 31 suspected person, achieving the best result in the last 7 years.
To compare with the results of previous years, on the first half of 2015 6 criminal procedures against 15 persons, on the first halfs of 2014 and 2013 11 criminal procedures but on the first half of 2012 – 6 criminal procedures sent for starting the criminal prosecution.
During the reporting period the one of the main important criminal prosecution cases is against the Chairperson of the Board of the State Stock Company “Latvijas Dzelzsceļš” (Latvian Railway) for the accepting the offer bribe on a large scale – in the amount of 500 000 EUR (more information: http://www.knab.gov.lv/en/knab/news/article.php?id=514982).
Another worthy criminal procedure which was sent to iniate a criminal prosecution is against the judge of the Riga District Court for the taking a bribe, misappropriation of a bribe and to initiate a criminal prosecution against the businessman for the giving a bribe. State official accepted a bribe for severelat times, as well as, did a misappropriation of a bribe, totally accepting as bribe more than 45 000 EUR (more information: http://www.knab.gov.lv/en/knab/news/article.php?id=504109).
