The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau suspecting demand and acceptance of bribes on 4 March 2008 apprehended an official of the Riga City Council Welfare Department. Within these criminal proceedings were apprehended two other persons – one for giving bribes, other for intermediation in bribery.
Materials gathered in criminal proceedings show that a bribe was asked and accepted in order to secure victory of a specific enterprise in a municipal procurement in the area of construction.
Information possessed by KNAB gives sufficient ground to believe that the official of the Riga City Council has illegally asked for material benefits and accepted repeatedly.
Pre-trial investigation is ongoing. At this stage no further information can be provided.
