During its 30th plenary session Council of Europe's Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) adopted the First and Second Round Evaluation Reports on Latvia where the corruption prevention and enforcement in Latvia has been evaluated.

Based on the first evaluation round which started in 2002 and concluded in October 2006 GRECO has recognized that Latvia has implemented 13 from 15 recommendations. During this first round Latvia's compliance to numerous criteria was evaluated.

In 2004 the second evaluation round was launched and the work on implementation of 3 remaining recommendations out of 13 addressed to Latvia is still going on.

Within this evaluation it has been recognized that Latvia in general has established a legal framework for provision of confiscation of proceeds from corruption. It was also stressed that Latvia has ensured transparency of the public administration and elaborated the National corruption prevention strategy. Measures taken by Latvia to implement these second round recommendations will be addressed by GRECO in the context of a specific compliance procedure next year.
