One in five Latvian residents and entrepreneurs tolerate involvement in corrupt activities

A public opinion poll conducted by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) shows that one in five residents and entrepreneurs tolerate giving bribes to state or municipal officials, similarly acknowledging making informal payments, giving gifts or using personal contacts over the past two years to deal with a variety of professional or domestic situations.

Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption approves the recommendations implemented by Latvia

The Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) has concluded the Fourth Evaluation Round on corruption prevention in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors, and has confirmed Latvia having implemented 11 of the 14 recommendations. GRECO also acknowledges that Latvia has fully or partially implemented 14 of the 17 recommendations made during the Fifth Evaluation Round on preventing corruption and promoting integrity in central governments (top executive functions) and law enforcement agencies.

KNAB requests the initiation of criminal prosecution against one legal person for foreign bribery on a large scale

On 1 December, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia (KNAB) sent to the Prosecutor General's Office criminal case materials for initiating criminal prosecution against one legal person registered in Latvia, for foreign official bribery and tax evasion. Allegedly, bribes on a large scale were given in the interests of a company and evasion of tax payments that caused to the state losses on a large scale.
